Six Sigma Process Excellence

Can we help you achieve six sigma process excellence?

What is Six Sigma?
Six sigma is a comprehensive system for achieving and maximizing business success faster and with more predictable results than any other known method. Its goal is to reduce defects to a level of 3.4 per million (six sigma). Classical annual improvement rate of quality is in the range of 5-15% while six sigma expectations are in the 70-85% range. Companies who have successfully used the six sigma methodology to achieve process excellence include American Express, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Dupont, Citigroup, Sony, Honda, Maytag, and Toshiba.

Why Six Sigma?
Worldwide benchmarking has found that the best-in-class companies have achieved six sigma level of quality. These companies spend only 1% of their revenue on internal and external repair whereas a four sigma company will spend more than 10%.

Why Are Companies Investing in Six Sigma?
Six sigma enables companies to compete successfully with the best-in-class companies, remain profitable in a world of declining product and service prices and establish a standard approach to continuous process improvement.

Six Sigma Roadmap
The six sigma methodology utilizes the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) cycle to achieve process excellence.

The FY Consulting Approach
Each process improvement project is different. The sequence of steps and timing depends on the objectives of the project. FY Consulting utilizes the following steps in its approach to process improvement:

1. Define what plans must be in place to realize improvement
2. Measure the systems that support the plans and develop an “AS IS” process map
3. Analyze the gaps and develop a “SHOULD BE” process map (The most critical step)
4. Improve system elements to achieve performance goals
5. Control system-level characteristics to maintain the gains

FY Consulting: Major Accomplishments

  • Consulting with a major chemical producer, decreased variation in the critical variables of a key product, resulting in cycle time reduction of over 8 hours and increased annual revenue of over $2,000,000.
  • Working with a supplier to the semiconductor industry, helped increase total sales over a five-year period from $350,000 to $28,000,000 and achieved six sigma level in all customer critical- to- quality characteristics.
  • Consulting with a division of Johnson & Johnson, improved batch-to-batch consistency of intermediate pharmaceutical products resulting in increased yield as well as a significant reduction in cycle times. The cycle time of a major intermediate product was reduced by 52 hours resulting in annual cost savings of over $650,000.
